Scotland’s red stag is the UK’s largest native land mammal, long associated with the rugged landscapes of the Highlands. Red deer have roamed these uplands since the last Ice Age and remain an enduring symbol of the region. Shaped by a harsher climate and more demanding terrain, they are well adapted to life in these exposed environments.
