About GnomeGirl
Kirsten Asmussen, also known as GnomeGirl is a Surrey-based photographer with a passion for wildlife and wild places.
On these pages she shares some of her favourite images, as well as information about the locations and wildlife she has photographed.
Kirsten's work is guided by patience, observation and a deep appreciation of the natural world. The resulting images represent countless hours spent waiting, watching and working from hides, vehicles and ground-level positions to photograph wildlife and their environments without disturbance.
Kirsten has a degree in Art History and formal training in photography, providing her with a strong visual foundation with technical expertise. She holds Licentiate and Associate distinctions from the Royal Photographic Society and her work is routinely shortlisted in high-profile competitions, such as the the British Wildlife Photography Awards, and Bird Photographer of the Year.

As a dual UK–US citizen, Kirsten has photographed extensively across Britain, Scandinavia and North America. However, many of her favourite images were taken closer to home. Whether waiting for a kingfisher to land, watching fox cubs in her garden, or photographing the changing seasons in the British countryside, she is drawn to the moments that reveal the beauty, and stories of the natural world.
