The short-eared owl is one of five owl species that reside in the UK. While some short-eared owls live here year-round, most only visit during the winter months, to escape the cold climates of their breeding grounds in northern Scandinavia.

This image shows a short-eared owl flying low over wetland in North Essex, cruising back and forth as it intently scans the ground below for voles. Unlike many owls, it hunts by day as well as at dusk, using a buoyant, quartering flight to cover open ground.

Cruisin' is currently available as a 48 by 36 cm print in a signed, limited edition of 10. It is professionally printed on 300 gsm smooth cotton Fotospeed and can be purchased unframed or framed. The framed images here use a 3.5 cm black wooden frame and non-reflective glass. The total size is 71 by 59 cm.
